I was on our roof feeding my pigeons before going to have dinner with my family, it was the 10th of Ramadan 2011. I heard the shooting sound, suddenly I felt something hit my back. I was shot, why? I do not know my family took me to the hospital.

I stayed in hospital 10 days only, my doctor was in a hurry to let me out of there, he knew that Assad’s ShabiHas will come to hospital, they will punish any doctor who treat wounded people & will take patients to the prisons as happened the next day.

The Regime’s gangs broke in the hospital and arrested all doctors and wounded patients, among them 12 year old boy, who was also shot and wounded, we don't know what happened to them. Since start of the revolution, we know Assad’s regime do that.

A man from Homs (19) allegedly shot in back by Assad sniper 9 months ago, who was at home feeding his pigeons, was forced to flee Homs hospital for fear of arrest by Shabiha militia.

Summery
A living example about the barbarity of Al Assad’s Regime; a very young man from Homs countryside suffers physical disability since 9 months when he was shot by Regime’s gangs and had to be a refugee under severe living conditions since 22 days in Damascus countryside.

The price for feeding the pigeons
It was not hard to talk to this very young man as I was anticipating before I entered his place; I was thinking he will be a devastated person as I had a previous idea about his situation; I was surprised to see his peaceful face and calm character, despite his weak health and the very bad living conditions, his optimism and very strong will can teach us so much lessons about patience and tolerance…
His mother- a very simple woman- was so eager to tell me what happened to her son, she jumped and sat next to me, she said: “the main reason for us to come here is to provide treatment for my son, there (she meant Homs City), the only doctor who was able to come and treat him left the city after the regime’s ShabiHas killed his son. My son did not receive any medical treatment since he was shot before 9 months.”
I wanted to start talking to him, but everyone in this crowded house has many things to tell… I listened to so many stories about the horrifying days in Homs city…
I looked at him and asked what you used to do before the accident? He said” I was a worker, I left the school early.”
He was sitting on disabled chair*, I was able to notice how much his leg’s condition is bad, I asked about the treatment he receives now, he told me that the doctor told him that he may walk again if he have a proper physical therapy.
I wanted him to feel comfortable to talk to me about the shooting accident; I thought he was shot during a demonstration against Assad’s regime, but to my surprise he was doing nothing but feeding his pigeons on their house roof…I asked him to tell me how this happened.
He said:” I was on our roof feeding my pigeons before going to have dinner with my family, it was the 10th of Ramadan (the fasting month in Muslim world) last year, I finished and I was about to go down to have dinner, I heard the shooting sound, I was stepping inside the roof door, suddenly I felt something hit my back… I was shot, why? I do not know…, my family took me to the hospital… the bullet entered my body under my thoracic cavity; it hit the spinal column and settled in my spleen, the bullet was removed but the doctors told me that the bullet caused lesion in your spinal column, we do not if you can walk again…I stayed in the hospital 10 days only, my doctor was in a hurry to let me out of there… he knew that the Assad’s ShabiHas will come to hospital, and in this case, they will punish any doctor who treat wounded peoples and they will take patients to the prisons…and in indeed, this happened the next day I left the hospital..The Regime’s gangs broke in the hospital and arrested all doctors and wounded patients, among them 12 years old boy, who was also shot and wounded…we do not know what happened to them, no one knows…”

It was not a shock for me to hear that from him; since the beginning of the Syrian revaluation, we know that Assad’s regime did that in all hospitals which receive wounded people, they killed many doctors and they still do this until this moment…I know also that they gave orders to doctors and nurses not to do their best to rescue people who were shot or injured during the clashes…they also send their ShabiHas to work as spies inside the hospitals…

He lives now with his family as refugees in a place in Damascus countryside since 22 days, they stay with another family from Homs city, around 18 persons in one house and shared bathroom, no humanitarian organizations help them, and they live in very bad conditions, some locals only help them sometime…
“M” who is only 19 years old, may recover if he was provided with a good medical treatment, he told me he feels that he will walk again, I asked him what is the first thing you want to do when you stand on your legs again, he said: “ I will go walking to Homs…”

I asked his permission to take some photos which show his health condition, he was so kind to allow me to do that… the bruises on his body are a result of lying without any physical therapy or medical treatment for long time… Thanks “M”.

Zoya,
Thanks for your kind words. He is getting some help, although there is a very great need for medical assistance for so many injured children & youth.

We will be posting a story about an injured girl as soon as we can get it out. She is a real beauty & so brave!
