At least 80,000 people walked through the Stratford bridge past the Westfield mall and into the Olympic Park for the first of two technical rehearsal events.
An audience of about 62,000 is expected in the stadium, in Stratford, for Friday's opening ceremony of the Games of the XXX Olympiad.
Over 10,000 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees are expected to participate, surpassing the 1948 Summer Olympics in London and the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester as the largest multi-sport event ever to be held in the United Kingdom.
