Bicycle Superhighways and Green Bicycle Path systems in Copenhagen
The 17 km long C99 cycle superhighway from the western suburb Albertslund to central Copenhagen will soon be followed by other superhighways in the Copenhagen region. The northern Farum route will be next with a partial opening in October 2012.
25% of the commuting through Copenhagen is done by bicycle, in London only 3%. The C99 from Albertslund to Vesterport Station in Copenhagen city, or vice versa, is only the first of 26 bicycle superhighways covering 300 km already under construction or planned in the region. The next will be from the north-western municipality Furesø (Farum) to Kongens Nytorv in central Copenhagen with a partial opening in October - closely followed by the Ballerup route. Also Elsinore (45 km more northerly) and Køge (42 km to the south), the two furthermost destinations yet, will get their bicycle superhighways. More than 20 municipalities and the Capital Region work together in this huge project.
