Scout camps are specific in that they involve mostly children, who work together during the year. They spend the summer with their friends and leaders they know. According to their age children even participate on the camp’s running. They help with the construction of the camp, food preparation or program.
The camp is for children from the beginning a great adventure. They experience living in a tent, games, sports, swimming, cooking, outdoor activities and hiking trips. Older and more experienced help newcomers to adjust to camp life. At scout camps there are created strong friendships which last for the rest of life.
Essential part Scout Camp is morning and evening scout musters. Both are attended in scout uniforms which have beige color for normal scouts and blue color for water scouts. Part of the water scouts uniform is garrison cap. During morning muster the Scout Anthem is being sung and the flag is being raised to the flagpole. During evening muster the flag is taken down while singing the Czech national Anthem.
A unique part of Czech scout camps is special kind of tent in which all participants sleep. It is called “podsada” tent and it looks a bit like a small house. At night when all sleep in “podsada” tents there is always a night watch to guard the camp. Children take turns in that during whole night, younger ones guard in pairs, older ones alone. Although this is Czech Scout camp is took place in Pribylina, Slovakia.
