Ampel Mosque is a ancient mosque located in the Ampel village, Kecamatan Semampir, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Mosque area of 120 x 180 square meters was established in 1421 by Sunan Ampel, and there is Sunan Ampel cemetery complex nearby.
The mosque which is now one of the religious attraction tourism in the city of Surabaya, the building was surrounded by architecture of China and the Arab. In the left side the courtyard, there is a well that is believed to be an auspicious wells, usually used by those who believe could strengthen the promise or swear.
Ampel Market is an Arab market, and it's a big one. Tourists will find several goods at this market specifically Arabian carpeting. Basically this market is where one would go to find souvenirs or gifts for relatives and friends back home.
Traditional market consists of two parts, which are located near the Grand Mosque and near the Tomb of Sunan Ampel. Provide a variety of daily needs ranging from vegetables, clothes, household appliances, clothes, snacks and culinary. This market is better known as the Center for Middle East market, because most of the traded goods sold here are typical of the Middle East, such as the Muslim fashion, perfumes, kurma, and various other accessories related to the atmosphere during Haj.
This market will be crowded during the fasting month and day of Islam, especially the eve of Eid Ul-Fitr this market will look more crowded than usual day. To find a variety of culinary Middle East, in this market can rely on. The seller was part of the Middle East (Arabs).
Usually most are from out of town visitors make a pilgrimages at the Tomb of Sunan Ampel, and before returning home took time to stop by the market to buy some souvenirs.
