Ex-Greens Leader Bob Brown joins Sea Shepherd in anti-gas campaign
Former Federal Greens leader, Bob Brown, and Australian Director Jeff Hansen from Sea Shepherd arrived in Broome and will join the crew of the Environmental group's flagship the 'Steve Irwin' as part of an anti-gas campaign.
This morning a Press Conference was held at the local beach in Broome at Gantheaume Point , where Bob Brown (former Greens Leader) and Jeff Hansen (Director of Sea Shepherd Australia) spoke with traditional owners Teresa and Jo Roe, while the 'Steve Irwin' was passing by on the way to the local Port in Broome.
Bob Brown and Jeff Hansen will join the crew of the Sea Shepherd ship 'Steve Irwin' tomorrow, 7-8-2012 to join protesters campaigning against Woodside Browse gas a $30 billion development at James Price Point.
Dr. Brown, who is the team leader of ' Operation Kimberley Miinimbi ' wants to raise awareness of the effect that the proposed gas hub would have on the Humpback Wales that use that area as a nursery.
A community science project has helped to demonstrate by identifying and tracking more than 1000 whales in six weeks of shore based observation. James Price Point has the biggest whale nursery in the world!
Media reports last week suggested that 120 police officers would be send to Broome this week for Sea Shepherds arrival, however a WA police spokeswoman said that was incorrect.
