Mexican Army intensify training for possible eruption of Popocatépetl
After increased activity at Popocatepetl Volcano, the Mexican army has intensified the training of 602 soldiers who will spearhead operations to serve the needs of those living near to the volcano in the event of a possible eruption.
In case of volcanic eruption, the Mexican army will be among the institutions who will lead the institutional operation coordinated with the name "Plan Popocatepetl" which involves federal, state and localities closest to the volcano to evacuate
on a quick manner the villagers that could be affected.
602 officers will be spearhead in the organization of diverse troops that be integrated immediately to the various tasks assigned according to the dimension of the emergency and the needs of the population that could be affected by the natural phenomenon in the State of Mexico.
If necessary, the same procedure will be implemented by the army in the states of Puebla, Morelos, Tlaxcala and Mexico City, The colonel in charge of Popocatepetl Operation Center, Raul Pozos Cervantes, explained that each community have been assigned brigades of search, rescue and evacuation and will be responsible for the attention to the most vulnerable population.
Likewise indicate that the Volcano Monitoring Center is on the lookout for all the activity in the volcano, and are already the established evacuation routes more efficient.
