The Tour of Duty ride reached Phoenix. It is a join effort by Australia and the United States to celebrate the contributions of military, fire fighters, and police. The ride began in San Diego and will end at the World Trade Center in New York City.
The finish at the World Trade Center
is to commemorate 9/11 and to recognize military service, past and present.
Twenty-four riders, 12 from each country, are participating in the event. Each team consists of four military, four firefighters, and four police. All are still in active duty. The teams have trained for up to 15 months. Even though, the participants are from two countries, they will participate as one team.
Their stop in Phoenix was across the street from the state capital at Wesley Bolin Plaza. The plaza has memorials dedicated to those who have served the state and nation.
Arizona Senator John McCain is a patron of the event.
