On 27 August 2012, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) embarked on a march to Cape Town, South Africa, demanding better service delivery and for Helen Zille, the leader of the opposition party (The DA) and premier of the Western Cape province, to step down. She is accused of an Apartheid-like rule - sentiments that can be explained by the fact that Zille is a white women, therefore the DA is often regarded as a white party.
The youth league, which gained worldwide 'fame' due to its controversial ex-leader Julius Malema, hoped for 18.000 people to show up but only some 2000 participated. nevertheless the cops kept a close eye.
Apart from the burning of two DA-Tshirts and some rowdiness, the protest was peaceful.
