ODU Young Democrats head to NSU to rally with US President
Old Dominion University Young Democrat's headed to Norfolk State University to rally with Barack Obama the President of the United States.
At a time when there has been rumor that the youth vote won’t mount up to that of the presidential campaign of 2008, Alex Jones of the Old Dominion University Young Democrats says that he is hopeful in regards to youth voter turnout for the 2012 presidential race. Alex along with 35 ODU Young Democrats made there way to Norfolk State University to rally with President Barack Obama in an effort to remain in the White House.
Terrell Kingwood, President of ODU Young Democrats explained that while most of our organization is back in classes we have other events slated which will bring out all the members of the Young Democrats to stand in support of President Barack Obama.
“ Virginia and the country have been moving forward, creating jobs, providing expanded healthcare access and pursuing goals of freedom and equality under President Obama,” “We cannot lose those gains so we are on the phone, knocking doors, registering voters and talking to our friends to make sure we re-elect our President in November.”
Virginia will always be a critical state and the issues have never been clearer for Virginian voters – including: the economy, education, transportation infrastructure, healthcare access and federal government investment. Focusing on these priorities under President Obama has made Virginia stronger; Romney-Ryan plan to destroy the policies making Virginia stronger and a better place to live.
“We are all excited about the Democratic National Convention and all the support that was shown here today at Norfolk State University. However, this election will not be won by a big speech in Charlotte. This election will be won with a grassroots effort of friends talking to friends and neighbors talking to neighbors about the true implications of policies in our lives,” said ODU YD Chief of Staff, Lex Jones. “ODU YD and our membership stand ready to have those conversations and re-elect President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and put Governor Tim Kaine into Virginia’s Senate seat next to Senator Mark Warner. From the top of the ballot to the local City Council and school board, we are ready to elect Democrats!”
“You know, being at Norfolk State University and seeing President Obama speak was an invigorating experience. You can tell that he’s fired up, and that the people Hampton Roads are ready to go. When he took the stage, the crowd was chanting deeply, “Four more years, Four more years!” Later, the President was talking about a Romney-Ryan policy and the crowd boo-ed, well, he interrupted and said, “Don’t boo, vote!” and you saw the crowd change, we started to chant, “Vote, Vote!”
