The Cascamorras festival is a spectacular sight as people of Guadix and Baza, bodies covered in engine oil, race through the streets in pursuit of the Cascamorra, a young man from Gaudix, who attempts to recapture a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The annual event of Cascamorras in Baza, Andalucia is a spectacular sight. The battle is between Guadix and Baza for possession of the statue of the virgin. The Cascamorras (a young man chosen from Guadix) has to fight his way through the town of Baza and arrive at the Church 'clean'. The Bastitanos (people of Baza) cover him, and everyone else in engine oil to foil his attempts.
