The Czech Republic announced emergency measures to combat a wave of alcohol poisoning, saying that 18 people have died and 24 have been hospitalized after drinking vodka and rum laced with methanol.
The death toll has climbed to 18.
Customs officers and police officers also checked the shops, stalls, markets and other places where they might find objectionable alcohol. It also warned the operator stands, the government banned the sale in such small counter drinks with an alcohol content of more than 30%.
