Hundreds of people protested in front of the Palace of Belem against new austerity measures.
Hundreds of people are concentrated in front of the Belem Palace, official residence of the President of the Republic, where he meets the Council of State convened last week by Cavaco Silva, to discuss the events surrounding the recent austerity measures announced by Prime Minister, Pedro Passos Coelho. Vitor Gaspar, finance minister, was summoned to attend the meeting. Among the measures announced, the most controversial is the increase to 18% in employee contributions to Social Security and reducing employers' contributions to equal proportion.
