Bayan Muna (People First) party-list Rep. Teddy Casino today filed his certificate of candidacy for his senatorial bid. The activist lawmaker, together with his supporters, braved the storm for a symbolic run.
He is the sole progressive candidate for the Philippine senatorial elections in 2013 which is dominated by political dynasties, many of which are former or incumbent senators.
Casino, a longtime activist, asserts there is a need for change in the lineup of the upper house.
"For so many decades, the same old political clans and vested interests have dominated the Senate. I want to break that stranglehold. I want to bring the voice of the common tao, especially the poor and marginalized who make up the majority in our country, into the halls of the Senate," he said.
He also added that "We will be relying on non traditional machineries and methods of campaigning," with the fun run showing the large support for his candidacy.
