Rioting protesters clashing on Tuesday October 6th near Taksim square with the Turkish police during the IMF and World Bank conference in Istanbul.
Demonstrators protesting the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Istanbul were dispersed by anti-riot police.
The authorities used water cannons as well as pepper spray to disperse the crowds. The leftist groups scattered around the streets behind the Taksim square to reassemble and protest the conference by shouting "go away IMF".
The main shopping artery in the centre, Istiklal street, where the events took place was deserted for a while as shops closed down after the windows of several banks and a McDonalds restaurant were shattered.
