The Spanish Alliance Against Poverty organised today, 16 October 2009, a demonstration in the centre of Madrid to demand better measures against the causes of poverty. Part of the demand of the protesters is also the completion of the Millennium Development Objectives which is being promoted under the slogan “Revolt Against Poverty”.
Fifty cities in Spain, including Barcelona, Seville, and Bilbao, will be organising demonstration over the next three days demanding real measures against inequality.
Leading the demonstration in Madrid were the Secretary General of the UGT union (Secretario General de UGT), Cándido Méndez (left) and the Secretary General of the (secretario general de CCOO), Ignacio Fernández Toxo. The photo shows the two secretaries greeting each before the start of the demonstration in Cibeles.
