Istanbul Eurasia Marathon: A journey between two continents

The 31st edition of the Istanbul Eurasia Marathon took place on the 18. October 2009. The official winner of the Marathon was Kasime Adilo Roba, from Ethiopia. First place for women took Bizunesh Urgesa, Ehiopia. Parallel to the Marathon a 15 km race was held as well. Istanbul, Turkey. 10/18/2009

The start was given by State Minister Faruk Nafiz Özak, accompanied by city mayor Kadir Topbas. The race took place under rainy weather.

The official winner of the Marathon was Kasime Adilo Roba, from Ethiopia. First place for women took Bizunesh Urgesa, Ehiopia. Parallel to the Marathon a 15 km race was held as well.

Due to the adverse weather conditions at the beginning of the event, the participation at the Fun Run was reported to be below the expected figure of 100.000 people.

One person was reported to have attempted suicide by jumping off the Bosphorus Bridge the start point of the race, which links the continents of Asia and Europe in Istanbul,Turkey.
