Thousands of new and old voters lined the designated registration centers here in Quezon City, one of the major City in Metro Manila, for the upcoming 2010 national election, to beat the deadline today at 12 midnight posted by Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Most of the applicants are new voters coming from the youth sector. For the past week, all registration centers in the country experienced heavy lines of applicants. "It took me almost a whole day to finish my registration... and i started to line as early as 5 -o-clock in the morning.." a youth applicant lamented. This is a good sign though that the youth seek to be heard in the up-coming elections as they aspire for a genuine and relevant change in the political system in the country. Because it is impossible to accommodate the thousands of applicants for registration to the set deadline, the COMELEC decided to extend it in a day on November 3, 2009, after the holidays for this month.
