After previous confrontations. People gathered around India Gate once again to protest the rape of 23 year old student while aboard of a bus in South Delhi.
The protest was being controlled at most times by the population themselves. With an occasional stone thrown at the Police, the violence was being held back from both sides as much as possible, with various Police Officers discussing and being supportive with the demonstrators.
With this, parts of the barrier setup by Police started to be removed, still with some opposition from the citizens, but now very few to be able to hold back a group of angrier protesters that were determined to reach India Gate.
As all barriers were removed, some police action started taking place, being followed by the water cannons and tear gas.
Protesters started running everywhere trying to escape the bat swings from Police, while some protesters still faced the water sprayed at them with signs showing “Peaceful Protest, Please”.
With very few protesters in front of the Police trucks, although hit by water, protesters were most of the times not hit by police, who at this point was trying to remove them from the front of the vehicles for no greater tragedy since the driver could see very little of what was going on around the vehicle.
After half an hour, most of the area was cleared. Leaving just a crew of Media chasing Police asking for explanations for an initiative which wasn’t properly announced before it started.
