Hurricane Ida hit El Salvador, from November the 6th to November the 8th. The whole country has been affected, and, as at 6 pm Nov 13th, 184 casualties have been officially reported. More rain is expected. San salvador, El Salvador, 08/11/2009.

Hurricane Ida arrived to El Salvador last Friday, not too windy but with a lot of rain. Ida has hit El Salvador during the last 2 days and nights, including last night, when the worst damages were done in the whole country. The record of 300 mm of rain, last night, is equivalent to the rain that falls during one month in a normal winter in El Salvador.
At this time, noon of November the 8th, about 70 cities have reported damages. Government office for Civil Protection has reported 90 casualties across the country, and the number is increasing.
In the capital city, San Salvador, one of the neighborhoods with more damages is “La Málaga”, south San Salvador, the same place where last year a bus with more than 30 passengers fell down to the river during an overflow and almost all passengers died. Last night, the flood was similar, and the river overflowed again. The wall that the City Hall built this year, for protection, also collapsed last night. That wall was painted with crosses and the names of the victims of last year overflow, part of that wall fell down last night and a small part is still standing as a symbol of life for the neighbors (see picture).
In the pictures you can see the wall collapsed, the river, the garbage the flood swept away. The current even swept cars away, as you can see. Some people are now cleaning the mud in their homes. The army is now in the streets with no guns, they are ready for helping people.
The pictures in this story were taken at “La Málaga”. In other cities, there are similar and worst cases than this one. More rain is expected for the next hours. Hopefully I can make an update and show you more images from other locations.

Very nice work under

Very nice work under hazardous conditions. You seem to get a good amount of detail while maintaining an overall sense of the larger issues at play: supplies (water, food, medical), and transportational relief issues.
