President Obama today announced plans for the first new nuclear facility to be built in the US for 30 years as part of a broader push towards increasing renewable energy sources in the US. Images show the Rancho Seco Nuclear Station which was decommisioned in 1989 and now is the site of multiple power genrating solar arrays owned by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. President Obama, who has called for a 'new generation' of nuclear power, offered $8.3 billion Tuesday in loan guarantees to help build the nation's first commercial nuclear reactors in nearly three decades. Obama made an announcement today about supporting the first nuclear reactor in the US in 30 years. Images are of the Rancho Seco Nuclear facility which was decommissioned as a plant in 1989 but continues to operate solar power generation on the same site. The nuclear announcement is expected to be the first in a number of initiatives supporting renewable energy industries covering wind, solar, nuclear, gas.
