Saudi authorities have called for government accountability relating to the December floods which killed over 120 people and caused up to a billion dollars worth of damage. These unforseen circumstances came as the government was preparing for pilgrims attending Hajj and combating Swine flu. Mecca, Saudi Arabia. 14/12/2009.
The Saudi authorities have urged a crack down on governmental accountability following the December floods that killed over 120 people and caused up to a billion dollars worth of damage to the oil rich kingdoms infrastructure. While the Saudi authorities were preparing for the influx of pilgrims attending Hajj, accommodation, transport and combating swine flu were their priorities and no-one could have predicted that the kingdom had to prepare to widespread flood.
The initial floods were a warning to the government but this fell on deaf ears. On Sunday December 13, 2009 the new group, The Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association urged new elections to end the corruption of the House of Saud and for a complete overhaul of the infrastructure, the Saudi royal family which runs an absolute monarchy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
