A statue of President Barack Obama portrayed as a little boy was erected in Taman Menteng city park at Jakarta. Jakarta, Indonesia. 15/12/2009.

Little Barry, as he was called among Indonesian childhood friends, is portrayed in the statue as a smiling boy with a butterfly on his hand and a Nobel medal on his chest. 

The bronze statue was officially opened to public on December 10, 2009. The creation of the statue was initiated by Ron Mullers from a group called Friends of Obama and supported by several local patrons, including the city government. As indicated in the statue's inscriptions, the monument is built to inspired Indonesian children in pursuing their dreams.

The erection of Obama's statue in Jakarta sparked controversy as some people thought local figures merits higher priority to be honored in a monumental statue. Facebook groups are already created demanding the statue to be removed, currently containing about 16,000 members in total.
