Chili growing is big business in the relatively small town of Kunri, Sindh, Pakistan. Here, a very young girl collects chilies to supplement her family's meagre income rather than attend school. Kunri, Pakistan. 09/11/2009.
Chili is big business in a relatively small town of Kunri. This town is in Sindh province of Pakistan and is reputed for its excellent red chili production. Much of this chili is exported to countries around the world. Other grades are sold locally in markets from Karachi to Peshawar. Much of these chilies are picked by Hindus, who form bulk of labour in and around Kunri. These labourers also bring in their children for collecting chilies. More collection means more earning for the families.
I found this girl picking red chilies on a big farm owned by a Muslim landlord. As photographing child labour is not seen as something good for the farm itself, I had to shoot fast and move on.
