While the Victorian fires which killed 200 people and engulfed 1800 homes are still smoldering, another form of nature's fury is venting itself on the north coast of NSW. Flood waters have left hundreds of people isolated, homes have been inundated and roads and bridges are cut.
One small community of "tree-changers" (some might call them a bunch of aging "hippies"), in the picturesque Bellinger Valley, have had their property cut in half, as part of a bridge was washed away and the remainder was crushed by a tree which fell as the bank gave way.
Australia is certainly a land of contrasts.
