Shanghai railway station serves as a major hub for millions of workers, students and visitors traveling daily in and out of the city. During the Chinese public holidays: Chinese New Year, Labour Day and National Day week, it becomes supercrowded with domestic tourists as well as ordinary people traveling to spend the holidays in their home town. The station and its surroundings provide an interesting contrast to westernized and often so superficial Shanghai media image.
I have been shooting at the station and in its surroundings since 2006. The area is now under refurbishment and a face lift to be completed by the Shanghai Expo 2010.
