Tongi (on the banks of the River Turag) January 20, 2010. Thousands of people from different parts of Bangladesh as elsewhere across the world are now moving towards the venue for the three-day long Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims in the world. Dhaka, Bangladesh. 21/1/10.
On the 22nd January the number of pilgrims is assumed to cross into the millions. The people will stay in the suburbs of Dhaka until January 24th to take part in the Akheri Munajat, the seeking of divine blessings of the Almighty Allah for continued peace and prosperity.
The President of Bangladesh Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia are likely to attend the Akheri Munajat from different locations.
The Biswa Ijtema venue on the banks of river Turag and adjacent roads and areas would be filled to the brim and would turn into a human sea on the last day of the congregation.
The leaders of Tablig Jamaat, the host organization of the prayers, said in 2009 a record number of 10,500 foreign devotees from different countries across the world joined the Biswa Ijtema. The number of Ijtema devotees might be higher this year.
