Police in Mansa, the Provincial Headquarters of Luapula Province of Zambia, have arrested a woman in Chitakwa Village for alledgedly dumping her baby in a public toilet.
The woman, known only as Chinyanta and who is believed to be mentally unstable , gave birth to a baby girl who she later dumped in a pitraratrine toilet yesterday.
The baby was retrieved alive by a combined team from the police and Mansa Municipal Council fire Brigade who rushed to the scene after the Aunty to Chinyanta, Lizzy Mwansa of the same area, reported the matter to police.
Both the baby and the mother were rushed to Mansa hospital where they are receiving medical attention.
The woman is due to appear in court at a later date.
