Different opinions are aired about street kids. More so with the soccer world cup final creeping ever so closer. Should the streets be "cleared" before this major event? Should a trust fund be created for homeless children as was suggested by the mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality? Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
Some understand that many kids have no parents, perhaps lost as a result of the AIDS pandemic, or were abused by members of their own family. Many shelters are filled to the brim, so they have no where to go.
Others argue that they are menaces to society deliberately choosing life on the streets and even “escaping” from places of shelter. They would exclaim that their mere existence on the street is a catalyst for criminal activities.
The conflicting viewpoints may suggest that there is uncertainty about their future. But when a phone book becomes your pillow, an old jacket your blanket, and the grass on the pavement your bed... you know one thing for certain… that life on the street is hard.
