Sekinchan is a small town located in the state of Selangor and is one of the major rice producing districts in Malaysia. Travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Sekinchan town takes an approximately 2 1/2 hours journey through scenic rural landscape of palm-oil plantations, coconuts and rubber trees. Rice farming is a labour intensive and time-consuming industry in the past but with the introduction of machines in the last decade, many farmers have seen an increase in the rice production. Nevertheless, with the booming swiftlet farming industry in this country lately, many farmers are trying their luck to lure the edible-nest swiftlets (a species of bird, native to South East Asia) to their farm by providing them with a long term accommodation and in return, the birds would reward the rice farmers with its precious bird’s nests. A look over the horizon, one could not stop noticing the growing numbers of these swiftlets’ “hotels”, a monolithic structure that firmly grounded on an otherwise greenish landscape.

Wesak Day is one of the most important events celebrated annually by the Buddhists in this predominant Muslim country. This was my second photo outing since I bought my first DSLR 2 weeks ago. Amidst wars and conflicts plaguing the worlds, humanity seeks religion for comfort and peace of mind. I personally don't believe in God but I do believe in the goodness of religion.
