After the march on Friday 29 January, the former workers of the defunct company Luz y Fuerza del Centro (LyFC) set up a camp on the main square of Mexico City. Despite low temperatures, dozens of workers attached to the Mexican Electricians Union (SME) stayed overnight in the centre of the city to pressure the government returned to them their source of work.
Many workers noted that this action was necessary because the federal government has not offered the right conditions for establishing a fruitful dialogue between union members and representatives of the mexican state. They said they have heard that the central committee of the union plans to move the camp to the official residence of Los Pinos, the presidential headquarters. They said that would be a great herror since the federal government seeks to have an excuse to violently suppress trade unionists. Should be noted that in the past two months there have been some clashes between electricians and the Federal Police (FP); at least twice PF members have fired against demonstrators.
The camp is maintained with the limited supplies that have been donated to the union. Is expected in the coming days, other organizations and unions bring more food for those who remain in the camp.
