The hyenas were three young ones -- not pups, but adolescents -- who I suspect had been left near their den while older hyenas out hunting. They were playing with a stick when the young giraffe stepped out of the bush. I could see them all turn and just think about it the possibilities. Wouldn't mom be proud? They gave a halfhearted little chase, but never seemed serious, and once the parent arrived it was out of the question. Giraffes have a good kick and are not usually hyena prey. So no one got eaten here, but the hyenas were fat and in good shape.
