Indian devotees perform rituals to celebrate Maha Shivaratri, the great night of Shiva at Ranghapahar Shiv Temple, on the outskirts of Dimapur, Nagaland State, India. 12/02/2010.
Thousands of Hindu devotees of Lord Shiva gather at the temple to offer rituals in marking the night when Lord Shiva, the god of creation and destruction, performed the 'Tandava' : a vigorous dance that is the source of the cycle of creation, preservation and dissolution. Devotees observe a fast and keep vigil all night, as well as performing rituals and pouring milk over Shiva Linga - a stone sculpture which represents the phallus of Shiva.
