Over 5000 scouts camp in the Nyeri town ahead of the 100th birthday of the the late Lord Baden Powell, the movement's founder. Several government officials led by Kenya's Vice President, Kalonzo Musyoka joined the scouts to commemorate the day. Kenya. Africa. 20/02/2010.
The scouts are camping in various grounds but the main one is Kabiruini show grounds where they are undertaking various activities and training.
The grave of the Late Powell and and his wife Olave Baden-Powell is in Nyeri at St. Peter’s Cemetery. The greave has been declared a national monument by the Kenyan government.
The country is preparing to host scouts from all over the world during the 13th world scouts moot on 27th July to 7th August. It is the first World Scouting event to be held in Africa.
