The north-western province of Ghor, translates as “mountain” in Pashto, and is governed by Baz Mohammed Ahmadi and hosts the Lithuanian ISAF forces. 


The province has been noted for its potential in tourism due to its springs, lush clean rivers, rain fed agriculture, pistachios forests and pastures. 


Current development projects are; dam construction in the Mrghab, Hirayud and Farahrud rivers for energy production, utilizing solar and wind energy, lime mine extraction, honey bee development, road construction (transportation through Ghor is currently very expensive).
