Funeral of Corporal Liam Riley Sheffield Cathedral

Sheffield city centre was brought to a stand still today when the military funeral of 21 year old Corporal Liam Riley took place in Sheffield Cathedral. Hundreds of people braving the cold weather listened to the service over loud speakers outside while it was standing room only inside as the city paid their respects to the hero Prince Harry described as "A legend". After the funeral service Corporal Rileys Flag draped coffin, carried by six members of his regiment, was carried out of the cathedral and transported on to a private family interment at Killamarsh Cemetery. Corporal Riley of 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment was killed in Helmand province Afghanistan on the 1st February this year by an Improvised Explosive Device while serving with the Coldstream Guards Battle Group. He had served with Prince Harry at the British Army Training Unit at Suffield in Canada.

After hearing of Liams death the Prince paid tribute to him saying “I remember Liam Riley so well from the time we spent serving together at the British Army Training Unit in Canada,”
