An MTS Transit Stop and surrounds at the new east gateway entrance to San Diego Mesa College is being developed to honor civil rights activist Rosa Parks, who had a special relationship with Mesa College and made several visits to the college in the early 1990s.Rosa Louise Parks was nationally recognized as the "mother of the modern day civil rights movement" in America. Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white male passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, December 1, 1955, triggered a wave of protest December 5, 1955 that reverberated throughout the United States. Her quiet courageous act changed America, its view of black people and redirected the course of history. This is the first permanent public art project dedicated to Parks on a Western campus.
