An estimated 5,000 people marched along Holloway Road to protest about the planned closure of the Accident and Emergency department at The Whittington Hospital. The Whittington’s maternity unit, intensive care unit and children’s hospital beds are also at risk under NHS plans which are currently out for consultation.

Among those leading the march were Frank Dobson MP and David Lammy MP who both later addressed the rally which was held outside the hospital where the march ended. The actress Juliet Stevenson also gave her support to the campaign and took part in the march.

The march was organised by the Defend the Whittington Hospital Coalition which was set up to build a united opposition to the proposals to close the Accident and Emergency Department at the Whittington Hospital and to stop the closure, privatisation and run-down of NHS services in our area. The coalition is opposed to any loss of service in any hospital in North London. http://dwhc.org.uk
