Prostitution in Bangladesh has been legalized since 2000. Prostitution is legal in Bangladesh, but the Bangladesh constitution provides that the "State shall endeavor to prevent gambling and prostitution."
I have a friend – her name is Taniya. She is a sex worker. I talked to her because I was primarily interested in knowing about the sex-workers and also about sex-work as a trade. I saw lots of the photographers and their work and their work on this community. One of the photographers is Shahidul Alam who has also worked with these people as an activist on issues related to work, labour and labour power and its relation to humanity from a specific political point of view. I have gone through most of the work that Shahidul has done over substantial period of time. His work inspired me to work on the sex workers.
