Chinese new year festival celebrations take place in Pontianak over a fifteen day period. The event was organised by Indonesia's tourism department and local government. Pontianak, Indonesia. 28/02/2010.
As a part of Indonesia's tourism promotion, the local government in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, together with numerous Taoist organization in Pontianak, held quite a lavish festival related to Chinese New Year spanning 15 days from the initial new year right to the Lantern Festival.
Thousands of people, locals together with tourists from neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore, flocked the central area of the city.
The area was filled with stands that sell various kind of foods, paintings, ornaments and toys. Various acrobatic shows featuring lion masks and dragons performed by the clubs representing the foundations from around Pontianak, was held on the stage together with singing performance by local artists.
