Students associated with the Stop the Cuts campaign occupied Sussex House, an administration building, at the University of Sussex today to protest the impending budget cuts, forced redundancies and fee rises. The administration responded by calling police to campus. At one point the situation became tense and chaotic when students and the police clashed. During the clash, students rushed downhill toward the building as some of those inside were brought out, and riot gear-clad officers with dogs forced everyone back. Students, many clad in paper animal masks, accompanied the protest with various chants and revisions of well-known songs, including lines like "We all live in a privatization machine" sung to the tune of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine.
