Dhi Qar was one of the most troublesome hotpots for the Ba’athist government and was one of the toughest regions to be conquered after the U.S invasion of Iraq in 2003 experiencing some of the heaviest battles.
Meanwhile in Baqubah a series of bombings kills 33 people and injures at least another 120, amid the violence turnout was higher than expected as 20 million Iraqi’s cast their ballot. Partial results will be announced by the UN on Thursday and full results are expected March 18.
