The anti-abortion movement, Marcha por la Vida, organised a demonstration in the centre of Madrid against the new abortion law. The organisers brought forward the demonstration to coincide with the Spanish presidency of the European Union. Madrid, Spain. 07/03/2010.

Marching under the banner, España Vida Sí (Spain Yes for Life), the organisers claim that 600, 000 people attended the demonstration early this afternoon which took place between Cibeles and Puerta del Sol.

During the course of the demonstration a group of Pro Abortion activists showed a banner in favour of abortion, but I was told that this was quick torn down. I arrived on the scene during the point when the banner was being torn away. This group of about maybe 30-50 (my guess) were led away by police and have their identity checked.

Apart from the defiant protest by the pro-abortion group, one could see other low key protests against the anti abortion demonstration: the rainbow flag on the HQ of COGAM, Colectivo de lesbianas, gays, transexuales y bisexuales de Madrid, graffiti and the holding of hands by two young females. (These acts are what I saw)

The anti-abortion movement, Marcha por la Vida, organised a demonstration in the centre of Madrid against the new abortion law. The organisers brought forward the demonstration to coincide with the Spanish presidency of the European Union. Madrid, Spain. 07/03/2010.
