It was on a Thursday, like today, that on the 11th March 2004, terrorists attacked commuter trains in Madrid killing 192 people. A number of commemorative events were organized in Madrid, including a floral tribute outside Atocha station with the president of the Asociación 11M Afectados del Terrorismo, Pilar Manjón, who lost her son, Daniel. This morning the President of the Region of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, and the Mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz Gallardon, laid a wreath outside the old town hall. Later the Mayor, on behalf of the Corporation of Madrid, laid a wreath at the Monument for the victims of 11 March in Atocha station. Survivors of the attack, families of victims and other VIP’s were present during these events.
