Supporters of the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the UDD (National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship) with their signature red shirts, started to gather this afternoon at various points throughout Bangkok to protest and ultimately bring down the current government. Government buildings and important institutions are being guarded by police and members of the Royal Thai army (who asked me not to photograph them). All roads into the capital have roadblocks, manned soldiers or police, and sales of petrol and diesel are reported to have been suspended this evening. The internal security act has been put in place by the current government from 11th-23rd March, and traffic this evening was unusually light for a Friday night.
