Woodley paid the penalty as Leigh Genesis beat them 2-0 in a Unibond League Division 1 - North match. Leigh, UK. 13/03/2010.
LEIGH GENESIS (2) v WOODLEY SPORTS (0)
Unibond League Division 1 - North
Scorers - Stepien (2 - Leigh)
The goalkeepers took centre-stage at LSV stadium as Garry Flitcroft's team of amateur players continued to close in on the Unibond Division 1 play-off's.
In a scrappy 1st half clear cut chances were difficult to come by and it wasn't until the 2nd half when 2 penalties changed the destination of a valuable 3 points.
Leigh Genesis conceded a penalty early in the second period but ex-Morecambe keeper Stephen Drench was the hero pushing away the spot-kick.
Leigh took advantage and were awarded a penalty mid-way through the second half. Jordan Stepien made no mistake for his 19th goal of the season.
Woodley Sports thought they'd equalised, but full-back Kris King saved the points with a last ditch goal-line clearance.
As the game entered injury time Woodley keeper Liam Higgenbothem almost equalised with an overhead kick only for his shot to be easily saved by Leigh keeper Drench.
A quick thinking Drench secured the points for Leigh, sending a long kick forward for Jordan Stepien to score his second, rolling the ball into an empty net.
