A photo essay about Moe Albanese who is 80 years old. His grandmother was the first butcher in the New York area of Little Italy and it seems like he is the last one remaining. New York, USA. 01/12/2009.
Moe Albanian was born in New York more than 80 years ago but he is originally from Palermo, every five years he goes on holiday in Sicily to find his origins. His butcher shop is the oldest in Manhattan, was opened by his mother in the last years of the nineteenth century and continues today to have a great success. Many customers make calls to Moe to book their piece of meat.
It's located in the neighborhood of Nolita (North of Little Italy), once inhabited by Italian Immigrants and today, with the regeneration taking place, it became one of the most trendy and fascion of the city with exorbitant rents and boutiche in any streets. The Moe's butcher
is the latest evidence of what life was like in this neighborhood until a few years ago.
