Over 50 people gathered outside the home of the Swiss bank UBS in Liverpool Street, demanding justice for the actions taken out on cleaning staff by the contracted UBS company, Lancaster (Rentokil). London, United Kingdom, 19/03/2010.
Cleaners working for Lancaster are being pressured into an agreement which would cut their working hours with a loss of pay for the same amount of hours. Since June last year new working conditions were imposed. Full night time cleaners became part timers with only four hour shifts, whilst the day cleaners who work 8 hours a day had a one hour meal break. However, the company added another woring hour to make up for the unpaid one hour meal break.
On February 4th 2010, Alberto Durango was sacked from Lancaster for organising the workforce to stand up for their rights. The main voice for today’s demonstration arises out of the fact that the company are looking to reduce night and day shifts by a further hour.
