Mexican Interior Minister dies in plane crash
Mexican Interior Minister Juan Camilo Mourino and two other top government officials were among fourteen people killed Tuesday when their small plane crashed in central Mexico City area of Reforma one of the most crowed pedestrian and traffic zones in the city.
The plane was supposed to have and engine failure but it was alleged that both engines failed, about 7:00 pm local time, a big explosion was reported in the zone, within its confusion it wasn't reported to be a plane crash, a few minutes later was confirmed that a plane crashed in this crowed place of the city and then about an hour later the tragic death of the Interior Minster was confirmed.
Dozens of cars caught fire and at least 40 people were injured, while officials evacuated about 1,200 people from area offices.
Hundreds of police, firefighters and soldiers swarmed the scene, which was littered with the charred hulks of vehicles and the remains of bodies, many burned beyond recognition.
Former President Felipe Calderon called Mourino "a great Mexican, intelligent, loyal and committed to his ideals and his country."
