The homes of hundreds of key workers are being put up for sale by the Crown Estate in a move according to residents that will raise £250 million whilst forcing them out of long-term tenancies. Paul Clark, director of investment and asset management is pushing through the scheme. The Estate is being run as a business with the purpose of generating income for the Treasury and states that any sales will only mean a change of landlord.

After a number of speakers outside the Crown’s headquarters, the residents marched to Buckingham Palace to hand in a petition to the Queen, leaving their banners and protest mentality at the gates to Green Park as it is not permitted to protest within the park or outside Buckingham Palace.

Residential estates that are included in the proposal are Victoria Park in Hackney, Millbank in Westminster, Lee Green in Lewisham and Cumberland Market in Camden. Although no official decision has been made yet the petition handed in to the Queen today has provided a solid attack in order for the residents to block the sale.
